First Snow

Today is the first day I saw snow fall. Ben ran into our room this morning, "look, Aleeesha, look outside! It's snowing!!" Wow, it was so beautiful to see the white flakes swirling. We went from window to window to watch the season's first flakes cover the ground.

Being a California girl, I was very excited about all this like a little girl seeing it for the first time. I had been in the snow before, of course, but I never actually saw it fall. This was a moment. We made hot chocolate and bundled up to go outside. I had a ski hat and ski gloves which Marc laughed at, I don't want to take any chances, I'm a newbie at this cold stuff. Of course he doesn't let the the snow stop his crazy french driving, whoosh, off to school, cussing in french "quel canard" who lets a little snow slow them down.

I'm having fun so far in this winter wonderland in the Northeast, its not really winter yet and there are lots of degrees to go down. Check back with me when its 100 degree difference between here and Ventura.

Fall has Fallen in Boston

Its getting cold here, why am I the only one walking around in snow boots and gloves and a scarf? Everyone else is still in flip flops and shorts...but its cold outside. Dad sends me emails reporting this winter will be the coldest in a decade with 20 foot snow drifts. That as big as a 3 story building, why do you think he is doing this? I'm getting myself a temperature controlled astronaut suit to stay warm automatically set at 70 degrees. I won't even have to take it off to go the bathroom or shower:).

But I am having so much fun with Marc, we are like kids laughing all the time. Yesterday we went to a new Korean supermarket to gather food for dinner. Affecting a Chinese accent, Marc made me almost pee in my pants with laughter as we zipped along the aisles tossing soba noodles, bok choy and kim chi in our shopping cart. We caught fresh shrimp, squid and wild salmon for a wonderful fruiti di mare that we cooked together while sipping a Reisling and listening to Leonard Cohen.

On Yom Kippur the fast went very slowly. I so wanted someone to smuggle me a pastrami sandwich. The temple we went to seemed more like a church with opera music rather than hebrew chanting. For Sukkot we'll go to the chabad down the street for a real Jewish experience Oy!

Next weekend we are going to Quebec avec une vrai Quebecoise, Tante C.A.. This will be quite an experience for sure. Life is so good.

Enchanted Nights in Maine

The leaves are beginning to change colors here in the Northeast. We drove through the North Shore of Massachusetts and walked on Singing Beach in Manchester by the Sea where your feet make a whistling sound on the sand. Up thru New Hampshire to see the forests so green and red. All the colors in Maine... reds, greens, greys. Fall is so beautiful here. Small quaint towns of Kittery and Ungonquit along the rugged Maine coast. Tasting our way thru Blueberry farms, maple syrup forests and chocolate covered bed & breakfasts. Shopping in Freeport for winter clothes and snow boots thinking how the hell will I do winter, I am freezing already in the brisk fall air.

Today I had a Parisian driving lesson.

How to drive in Boston during rush hour like you're french:
Make sure you never let anyone cut in front of you. Call everyone an asshole... in French. Create your own left lane and pass 25 cars all waiting to make a right turn, at the intersection you make an illegal right turn in front of the line of cars while flicking off the angry drivers making this face which says ef you.

Homme with Mon Homme

I arrived in Boston this morning, the weather is beautiful here and some of the leaves are already beginning to turn red. Marc promises this gorgeous weather will last until December 15th, and then it immediately drops to 10 below.

Its good to be here in Boston though, it hasn't quite sunk in that I actually live here. Once I'm working full time, I bet it will. I thought I would be broken up about leaving the boys behind especially Sam since he is still living at home but he assured me that he will be fine as he plans to reconfigure the house into a party house. He's home with our dog, Emma, and the chickens and he seems happy about that, well maybe not about the chickens, he and the step kids suggested to roast them.

Seeing my sons off as I head to the airport, two tall, handsome, young men who are both aspiring to be doctors makes me think I must have done something right. They work hard and I'm very proud of them. Today, I felt ready to make this huge move in my life, to be with Marc and Leah and Ben on the East Coast. Its a huge change but it feels so natural and easy and I'm very excited about this adventure. Tonight we had dinner as a family and helped the children with french homework and math. We'll put them to bed soon and later we'll go to bed, knowing that we are finally together. Its quite a miracle but so normal at the same time.

Today is the Day

Today, I drove Sam to school for the last time. I made him coffee, he looked (down) at me with his big, brown, puppy dog eyes and then laughed as I started to tear up, the brat.

Today, Marc called me on the phone for the last time to say bonjour from across the country. I'm exited and nervous and scared and happy and everything...of course I'll be back frequently, can't take me completely out of California. But I am so ready for my life with Marc and our big family spanning the globe. Simply amazing.

I'm moving to Boston

I created this blog to stay in touch with family and friends as I make my home with Marc in Boston. I plan on being bi-coastal, hence the name 805 Boston with frequent excursions to France. Please visit often and leave comments.

5 months ago, if someone told me I was going to be living in Boston, I would have said "You're nuts!" Well, maybe I'm the one who's nuts. Yes, I'm moving to Boston tomorrow!

I met Marc on JDate a little over 4 months ago and my life has never been the same. We connected on every level and then we met in person and it was love at first sight. We kept asking how is this going to work out? How will we find a way to be together? We thought we'd take turns flying across the country until next summer, but being separated for even a few days at a time felt like an amputated limb. Yes, it was that painful.

Now, 4 months and 5 days later, I will be flying to Boston to stay. I still consider myself a California girl, especially my blood. And I try not to think about those cold Northeastern winters....brrrr but I am very excited about this, its a new chapter in my life. One filled with adventure and most of all love. I met the love of my life and I would move anywhere to be with him.

I'm going to sleep now for the last time alone.
